Preparation For Confident Loading and Travelling

May 11, 2024

Outline

This one day workshop is ideal for all those horse owners who want to improve their loading skills so that their horse becomes confident and therefore willing to load effortlessly and then can travel calmly and safely.

Everyone is given a chance to speak and to ask questions. Sue will invite all attendees to email what is happening with their loading or travelling, this will save a lot of time on the day and a lot of you will probably have similar stories. She will respond on the day to all of them.

Location & Duration

Held at Jewels Stables, Arundel on Saturday 11th May 2024

Arrivals from 9am with a 09:30 start and 16:30 finish.

Contents

*  What makes horses tick. How they use all their senses including legs to keep themselves safe.

*  Innate behaviour of horses versus innate behaviour of humans

*  Understanding how to be indirect, not focussed on the end goal

*  Learning how to help the horse who is introvert and the horse who is extrovert

*  An understanding of how we inadvertently incorrectly influence them through our    heightened emotions and body language and how to correct this

*  Understanding thresholds, approach and retreat and when and how to correctly reward.

*  The importance of smell and touch

*  Why having a straight back up of 10 steps is important and how to teach it very lightly

*  Using obstacles to ISOLATE and SEPARATE so we can find out where the horses concern comes from, i.e. The squeeze or the ramp or the roof.

During the course of the workshop there will be 2 demonstrations with one or two of the horses at Jewels Stables, so that you can see the practical application.

There will also be the opportunity to pair up and practice some of these teachings for any of the participants interested in learning through simulation
